Dillon Wins 10-8 Over Waccamaw

The Dillon Lady Wildcats won 10-8 over the visiting Waccamaw Warriors of Pawley’s Island on Friday, March 21, in varsity softball played in Dillon.
After 4 innings of play, the Lady Wildcats were up 3-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Dillon’s #9 was on the mound. Waccamaw led off with a single. The Lady Warriors’ #5 bunted a short pop-up that three of Dillon’s players attempted to catch but were unable to catch it. Runners were on first and second. A sac bunt by Waccamaw moved the runners to second and third. Waccamaw’s #8 garnered a walk to load the bases. The Lady Warriors’ #1 dropped one into short center for a single and a rbi to cut Dillon’s lead to 1 run, 3-2. Waccamaw’s #10 was hit by a pitch that allowed a run to score to knot the the game at 3 with the bases loaded and a run scored. #3 for the Warriors hit a grounder up the middle and the runner was out at second but 2 base runners crossed home plate to give the Lady Warriors a 6-3 lead. The Warriors’ #12 hit a fly to center to end the top of the fifth inning with Waccamaw on top 6-3.
Dillon’s Cierra Grice hit a hot grounder that was slowed down by the Warriors’ short stop but Grice ended up on second base. Makenna Meekins hit a grounder to third and was safe at first to place base runners on the corners. Makayla, #13, hit one to short and both base runners crossed home plate to cut the lead to one run, 6-5. Dillon’s #9 hit one between left and center for a double and a rbi to knot the score at 6. Dillon’s #6 bunted safely to place base runners on second and third with no out. Dillon’s #18 sac bunted to give Dillon a 7-6 lead. Dillon’s #8 went down swinging for out 2. Dillon’s #10 took a strike and #6 scored to give Dillon an 8-6 lead. Dillon’s #10 hit a fly to right to close out inning #5.
Dillon retired #17, #7, and #5 for Waccamaw in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Wildcats’ #11 garnered a walk to begin the bottom of the sixth inning. Cierra Grice hit a fly to right for out #1. Makenna Meekins hit a hot grounder to the pitcher for out 2 that moved the base runner to second base. Dillon’s #11 moved to third base on a passed ball. Makayla, #13, garnered a walk to place base runners on the corners. Dillon’s #0 arrived safely on an error to short and a run scored with base runners on the corners. Dillon’s #9 moved safely to second base. The Lady Wildcats managed to score another run to give Dillon a 10-6 lead after 6 innings.
The Waccamaw Lady Warriors were not through yet and managed to score 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning. The final score was 10-8 in favor of the Dillon Lady Wildcats.
Dillon will host Loris on Tuesday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m.
Waccamaw will travel to Bennettsville to face the Marlboro County Lady Bulldogs.
