Dillon Wildcats Take Out Swansea Lady Tigers

The Dillon Lady Wildcats and the Swansea Lady Tigers faced off in Dillon on Wednesday, May 8, for a game scheduled but was delayed due to lightning in the area.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats’ Paige Sherman faced only 4 batters in the top of the first innings of which 2 were retired as strikeouts.
Dillon’s Cierra Grice garnered a walk, and then quickly stole second base. Makeena Meekins arrived on an error on a bunt to place runners on the corners. Swansea’s catcher overthrew an attempted pick off at third and a run scored. Makeena Meekins stole second and third bases. Paige Sherman was out on a line drive to second. Alyssa Lee bunts safely and picked up a rbi to give Dillon a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Swansea’s #11 hit a grounder to third for out 1. #15 garnered a walk. Dillon turned a double play on a hit by #14 to the pitcher to end the top of the second inning.
Dillon’s Mariah Campbell hit a grounder by third for a leadoff single. After leaving the base early on the pitch, she was called out. Cecelia Grider garnered a walk. The Lady Wildcats’ #16 sac bunted. With runners on first and second, Cierra Grice hit one to third, and the runner was out at third on a fielder’s choice.
Swansea was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the third inning.
Dillon was at bat in the bottom of the third inning when the game was postponed due to rain and lightning.
The game resumed on Thursday, May 9, in Dillon.
Paige Sherman hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi to give Dillon a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Makayla Huggins hit one between first and second for a double to place runners on second and third. Alyssa Lee sac bunted and picked up a rbi. A Dillon runner scored on a throw that was over the head of the pitcher. At the end of 3 innings, Dillon was up 5-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Dillon’s #18 was on first when Cierra Grice hit a grounder to third to place runners on first and second. Paige Sherman hit a hot one by first that allowed 2 runs to score. Makayla Huggins sac hit to score a run. Dillon was up 8-0 at the end of 4 innings. This proved to be the last score of the game.
Paige Sherman picked up the win for the Lady Wildcats. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 2, allowed no runs, and struck out 11.
K. Smith started the game for the Swansea Lady Tigers. She pitched 2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 5 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 1. K. Sease pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 hits, 3 runs, walked 4, and struck out 4.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman had a single, a double, a walk, 3 rbi, and2 runs in 3 at-bats while Mariah Campbell had 2 hits and a stolen base in 3 at-bats. Makayla Huggins had a hit and a rbi in 4 at-bats. Alyssa Lee had a hit, 2 rbi, and a walk in 2 at-bats. Makeena Meekins had a hit, a stolen base, and scored 2 runs in 4 at-bats. Cierra Grice garnered a walk and scored 2 runs in 3 at-bats, and Ansley Villagomez had 2 walks and scored a run in 1 at-bat. Cecilia Grider garnered 2 walks in her 3 plate appearances.
Swansea’s Hayden Moody had a double in 1 at-bat. Adin Busbee and Olivia Porter each had a hit in 3 at-bats.
