Dillon Wildcats JV Team Knocks Off Socastee Braves

The Dillon Wildcats knocked off the Socastee Braves 38-14 in junior varsity football played in Dillon on Thursday, August 29.
The game was delayed 30 minutes due to the heat.
The Braves were attempting to get a drive going in the last few minutes of the first half but a deflected pass that was intercepted by Dillon’s #4 stopped the threat. Dillon led 24-0 at halftime.
Dillon’s #10 returned the opening kickoff of the third quarter 17 yards. An interception by Socastee’s #12 who returned the football 44 yards for a touchdown breathed new life into the Braves. Socastee’s #2 rushed for the 2-point conversion to cut Dillon’s lead, 24-8.
Dillon’s #1 returned the kickoff. The Wildcats’ #3 was stopped after a 6-yard gain. With 7:30 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon’s #3 scampered 49 yards for the score. The 2-point conversion attempt by #10 failed. Dillon led 30-8.
With 6:42 remaining in the third quarter, the Braves’ #2 carried for a 59-yard touchdown. Socastee’s #3 was stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt. Dillon led 30-14.
It appeared that the Socastee Braves was gaining some momentum.
The Braves’ defense forced the Dillon offense to punt on the next series of play, and Socastee took over on their own 41-yard line with good field position.
After 3 quarters of play, Dillon was up by 16 points, 30-14.
Dillon’s defense prevailed, and the offense went to work. However, Dillon faced a fourth down and 9 yards to go when the Wildcats’ #10 carried for a first down to Socastee’s 23-yard line. With 2:51 remaining in the game, Dillon’s #1 scored. Dillon’s #14 rushed for the 2-point conversion to give Dillon a 38-14 lead.
Dillon will host Wilson on Thursday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m.
