Dillon Wildcats Defeats Marlboro Bulldogs 35-12

The Dillon Wildcats defeated the visiting previously undefeated 7-0 Marlboro County Bulldogs 35-12 in varsity football action played in Dillon on Friday, October 18, before a huge crowd of fans for both teams.
The Bulldogs won the toss and elected to receive the pigskin. Marlboro’s Justin Purvis returned the opening kickoff. On the first offensive play of the game, the Bulldogs’ Justin Purvis fought for a 1-yard gain. Nydarin Blackwell lost 2 yards on the next play. Marlboro faked a punt by Nydarion Blackwell who kept the football but did not pick up the first down, and the Dillon Wildcats took over on Marlboro County’s 25-yard line. Dillon faced a fourth down with 15 yards to go. A completed pass from quarterback Rahmond Hamilton to Zamarious Robertson picked up 18 yards and a first down. Domanick Felton carried for no gain. Dillon again faced a fourth down and 12 yards to go from the 16-yard line. A pass was completed to the 2-yard line but a flag on the play nullified the play. Dillon once again faced a fourth down and 17 yards to go from the 21-yard line. An incomplete pass turned the football over to Marlboro County.
The Bulldogs offense began to click. After a 2-yard pickup, a 4-yard pickup, a completed pass to Justin Purvis gave Marlboro County a first down. Nydarion Blackwell scrambled for a 10-yard pickup. The Wildcats’ defense forced the Bulldogs to punt on fourth down. The punt sailed to the Dillon 20-yard line.
Dillon turned the football over on downs.
Marlboro County’s offense did a triple play reverse that ended with a completed pass to Damon Short. The Dillon defense rose to the occasion, and Marlboro County’s Nydarion Blackwell punted. The football rolled to Dillon’s 7-yard line.
A completed pass to Rike Niyongabo moved the football to Dillon’s 46-yard line. Domanick Felton carried for 7 yards followed by another carry for a first down, another first down, and another first down to Marlboro County’s 3-yard line. Domanick Felton crossed the goal line with 8:42 remaining in the first quarter to give Dillon a 6-0 lead. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon led 7-0 and would never trail in the game.
After the Dillon kickoff, the Bulldogs’ offense went to work from their own 28-yard line. After a first down, Dillon was charged with pass interference. Dillon’s Zephaniah Campbell intercepted a pass on Dillon’s 9-yard line.
Dillon was forced to punt, and Jamarion Fling’s punt was blocked. Fling picked up the football, and ran but came up short. Marlboro County took over on Dillon’s 49-yard line.
The Bulldogs faced a fourth down and 11 yards to go from the 50-yard line. Dillon’s defense prevailed.
Dillon moved the football to Marlboro County’s 15-yard line. With 3 seconds remaining in the first half, Stephen Rojas’ field goal attempt was blocked and returned for an 85-yard touchdown by Jakarrion Kenan. The 2-point conversion pass attempt in the end zone failed. Dillon led 7-6 at halftime.
The Dillon High School band performed at halftime.
Dillon High School’s Shirl Carter was honored at halftime as being “The Scrubby’s Car Wash Teacher of the Week”. Carter is not a only a teacher but also once coached the Dillon High School softball team and won a State Championship plus she also was a volleyball coach.
With 7:29 remaining in the third quarter, Jamarion Fling scored. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas. Dillon led 14-6.
The Marlboro Bulldogs Nydarion Blackwell crossed the goal line with a 5-yard rushing TD with 2:56 remaining in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Dillon led 14-12.
The Dillon Wildcats were forced to punt after the Bulldogs stopped the Wildcats. Marlboro County took over on their own 26-yard line.
Dan Graves intercepted a pass, and Dillon’s offense went to work.
An injured Marlboro County player halted the game for a short time before he was taken to the hospital. Prayers were offered for him.
With 10:19 remaining in the game, Dillon’s Jamarion Fling scored from 2 yards. The Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon led 21-12.
The Bulldogs’ offense began to move the pigskin after the kickoff. Marlboro County faced a fourth down and 5 yards to go. Nydarion Blackwell fired a pass to Donavan Pauling-Outlaw for a big first down to Dillon’s 24-yard line. The Bulldogs faced a fourth down and 10 yards to go from the 24-yard line. Dillon took over with 7:08 remaining in the game.
Dillon fumbled, and Marlboro County took over on Dillon’s 38-yard line. The Bulldogs faced a fourth down and 22 yards to go. Marlboro County fumbled, and Dillon scored with 2:29 remaining in the game. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas. Dillon led 28-12.
Dillon’s Dan Graves intercepted a pass and returned it 53 yards in the final moments of the game. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good.
Both teams had some great offensive and defensive plays throughout the game.
Dillon will travel to Waccamaw on Friday, October 25, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Marlboro County will host Loris on Friday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m.
