Dillon Wildcats Advance In Playoffs With Win Over Newberry

The Dillon Wildcats advanced to the next playoff round with a 33-28 win over the Newberry Bulldogs in Newberry on Friday, November 22.
The Newberry Bulldogs received the opening kickoff from the Dillon Wildcats to begin the action on this cold night. The Bulldogs began on their own 26-yard line. Newberry scored from the 3-yard line with 9 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was good. Newberry led 7-0.
After the kickoff, Dillon found themselves on their own 19-yard line with 8 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Wildcats began to move the football on offense. As they moved down field, Dillon fumbled but recovered and continued to move the football. With 4 minutes left in the first quarter, Dillon was on the 8-yard line of Newberry. With 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter, Jamarion Fling rushed for a 2-yard touchdown. The PAT failed. Dillon trailed 7-6.
The Wildcats kicked off to the Bulldogs. Newberry had the football on their own 36-yard line with 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Newberry faced a fourth down on Dillon’s 38-yard line with under a minute left in the first quarter. The first quarter ended with Newberry leading 7-6.
Newberry continued to move the football. With about 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Newberry was on Dillon’s 18-yard line. The Wildcats intercepted a pass and had the ball on Newberry’s 48-yard line. With 9 minutes remaining in the first half, Jamarion Fling rushed for a 34-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed. Dillon led 12-7.
Newberry found themselves on their own 17-yard line after the kickoff. The Bulldogs’ offense went to work and began working their way toward the goal line. Dillon began the next series of downs on their own 36-yard line after the kickoff with about 4 minutes to work with before halftime. Dillon maneuvered the football methodically and hit pay dirt with an 18-yard pass to Zamaurious Robertson with about a minute left in the first half. Dillon led 18-12. The 2-point conversion was good to give Dillon a 20-14 lead over Newberry…but Newberry still had about a minute left in the first half.
Newberry began the drive on their 43-yard line after the kickoff. The Bulldogs did not waste any time and connected for a 57-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT was good to give Newberry a 21-20 lead.
Dillon came up short on their drive as time expired in the first half.
Newberry held a slim,1-point lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs kicked off to the Wildcats to begin the third quarter of play.
Both teams battled back and forth with no score until Dillon’s Daniel Capehart rushed for an 11-yard touchdown with about 1 minute left in the third quarter. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon led 27-21. This score would hold through the end of the third quarter.
With about 11 minutes remaining in the game, Dillon was on Newberry’s 9-yard line. Newberry recovered a Dillon fumble and had the football on their own 20-yard line.
Newberry faced a fourth down with about 8 minutes left in the game. Newberry punted, and Dillon has the football on Newberry’s 21-yard line. With about 7 minutes left in the game, Ejan Green was on the receiving end of a 20-yard pass for a TD. The PAT was no good. Dillon led 33-21 with about 7 minutes left in the game.
