Dillon Man Charged With Attempted Murder And Other Charges In Shooting On North 9th Avenue

On April 19, 2024 at approximately 2:51 p.m., city officers were dispatched to the West Main Street Car Wash
located at 600 W. Main Street within the city limits of Dillon in reference to a male party with a gunshot wound.
On scene, officers located a male victim who had been shot in the chest. Dillon County EMS arrived and
transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
During the investigation it was learned that the incident actually occurred at a residence on N. 9th Avenue.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and processed the crime scene. The following day investigators were
able to interview the victim at the hospital and identify a suspect in this case.

Arrest warrants were obtained on Vernie Durand Blount, age 49, of Dillon, for Attempted Murder, Possession of
a weapon during a violent crime and felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition. Mr. Blount was then
located by officers on East Dargan Street and arrested. Mr. Blount was transported to the Dillon County
Detention Center where he went before a Magistrate Judge and was denied bond on these charges.
