The 11-3 Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the Purnell Sweat Lady Rams of Pembroke, N.C., 52-45 in varsity basketball action played on Friday, January 17.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats were up by 4 points, 10-6, after the first quarter of play. Dillon was up by 13, 30-17, at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Dillon led 39-33. The Lady Wildcats added 13 points in the final quarter, and Purnell Sweat added 12 points.
Dillon’s Treasure Davis led all scorers with 22 points. She had seven 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and sank 5 of 6 free throws. Khwnylahi McKinnon added 13 points to the scoreboard. She had four 2-point baskets and 5 free throws. Ayonna Lester had three 2-point baskets for 6 points. Zynijah Pernell had a 3-point basket, a 2-point basket, and a free throw for 6 points. Azyriah Ford and Alssa Lee each had a 2-point basket. Zadaiya Moody sank a free throw.
Jayda Dial led the Lady Rams with 16 points. She had five 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 3 free throws. Aidsyn Bland added 12 points with five 2-pint baskets and 2 free throws. Terra Bullard had three 2-point baskets and a free throw for 7 points. True Ellerbe had three 2-point baskets for 6 points. Zaylee Hunt and Chloe Chavis each sank a 2-point basket.
