The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the visiting Aynor Lady Blue Jackets in varsity basketball played in Dillon on Friday, January 31.
Although Aynor controlled the opening tipoff, Dillon controlled the tempo of the game.
The Lady Blue Jackets scored the first 2 points of the game. Dillon’s Ayonna Lester knotted the game at 2 with a basket. Mariah Campbell added a 2-point basket followed by Treasure Davis with a 2-point basket of her own to give the Lady Wildcats a 6-2 lead. The Lady Wildcats would never trail in this game. Treasure Davis pumped in another 2-point basket. Aynor’s Alisha Huffman hit a 3-point basket. She later connected for a free throw. Aynor had closed the gap to 2 points, 8-6. Dillon’s Ayonna Lester hit a 3-point basket from the top of the key. Elisha Huffman connected for a 3-point basket for the Lady Blue Jackets. Khnylahi McKinnon sank a 2-point basket for the Lady Wildcats followed by a 2-point basket and a free throw by Terianna Richardson to cut Dillon’s lead to only 1 point, 13-12. Dillon’s Mariah Cambell hit a 3-point basket. Khwnylahi McKinnon sank 4 free throws for the Lady Wildcats and then calmly sank a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket. Dillon was up 25-12 with 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Khwnylahi McKinnon scored a 2-point basket for the Lady Wildcats as the quarter came to an end with Dillon up 27-112. Dillon committed 5 fouls in the first quarter while Aynor committed 2 fouls.
Aynor’s #15 connected for a 2-point basket to begin the second quarter. Dillon’s Khwnylahi McKinnon picked back up where she left off in the first quarter with a 2-point basket and a free throw followed by another 2-point basket to give Dillon a 32-16 lead. Elisabeth Beverly banked one in for 2 points for Aynor. Dillon’s Alyssa Lee got onto the scoreboard with a 2-point basket. Khwnylahi McKinnon connected for another 3-point basket followed by Treasure Davis with a 2-point basket for the Lady Wildcats. Aynor’s Hannha Lewis sank a free throw. With 4:30 remaining in the first half, Dillon was up 36-19. Zayriah Ford connected for a 2-point basket followed by Zynijah Pernell who sank 2 free throws with 2:48 remaining in the first half. Dillon was on top 40-19. Caroline Gerrald sank a 2-point basket for the Lady Blue Jackets followed by a 3-point basket from the corner by Dillon’s Treasure Davis and a 2-point layup by Mariah Campbell for the Lady Wildcats. Zadaiya Moody grabbed a rebound for the Lady Wildcats and scored a 2-point basket to give Dillon a 47-21 lead at halftime. Dillon committed 4 fouls in the second quarter while Aynor committed 3 fouls.
Dillon’s Ayonna Lester connected for a 2-point basket in the beginning of the third quarter followed by Khwnylahi McKinnon with a 2-point basket, a 2-point basket by Jiana McGill, and 2-point basket by Zayriah Ford to give Dillon a 55-21 year with 4 minutes remaining in the third quarter. With 2:48 remaining in the third quarter, Aynor’s #15 scored a 2-point basket for the first points for Aynor in the third quarter. Alivia Hess scored a 2-point layup for Aynor followed by a 2-point basket by Dillon. Dillon was up 57-25 after 3 quarters of play.
Dillon’s Mariah Campbell scored a 2-point basket followed by Azyriah Ford with as 2-point basket of her own. Mariah Campbell sank a free throw. With 5:04 remaining in the game, Dillon was up 62-25. Zayriah Ford scored a 2-point basket for the Lady Wildcats. Aynor’s Alivia Hess banked in a shot for 2 points. Elisha Huffman sank a free throw for Aynor. Jaziyah Leggette hit a 3-point shot from the corner for the Lady Wildcats as time expired in the game.
Dillon is 14-3 overall, and Aynor is 10-11 overall.
Dillon will host Marlboro County on Tuesday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m.
Aynor will travel to Pawleys Island to face Waccamaw on Tuesday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m.
