The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the Red Springs Lady Red Devils 54-34 in varsity basketball action played in the South Robeson Shootout held in Pembroke, N.C., on Friday, December 20.
With 4:212 remaining in the first half, Dillon trailed Red Springs 17-10. The Lady Red Devils led by 10 at halftime, 24-14.
In the beginning of the third quarter of play, Red Springs increased the lead to 13 points, 27-14. At that point, the Dillon Lady Wildcats began to score and whittled down the score to only 2 points, 29-27. Red Springs was not ready to give up. With 2:12 remaining in the third quarter, the Lady Red Devils were up 34-29. Dillon rattled off two 3-point shots and three 2-points shots in a row and soon led 44-29 after 3 quarters of play.
Dillon committed 4 fouls in the third quarter while Red Springs committed 3 fouls.
With 5:37 remaining in the game, Dillon led 52-31.
Dillon committed 5 fouls in the final quarter, and Red Springs committed only 2 fouls.
Dillon is led by Head Coach James McMillian and staff. Red Springs is led by Head Coach Tenisha McArthur and Assistant Coaches Jacobi McLean and Tevonia Williams.
Dillon will play in the District IX Tournament from December 26 through December 28.
Red Springs will host Pender on January 6.
