The Dillon Lady Wildcats advanced to the next round of the basketball playoffs with a 56-26 win over the North Charleston Lady Cougars in varsity action played in Dillon on Tuesday, February 17.
Dillon led 13-5 after the first quarter of play. Dillon committed 4 fouls, and North Charleston committed 3 fouls. By halftime, Dillon was up 34-7. Dillon committed 5 fouls, and North Charleston committed 4 fouls. After 3 quarters of play, Dillon led 47-17. Dillon did not commit a foul in the third quarter. North Charleston committed 4 fouls. In the final quarter, Dillon committed only 1 foul while North Charleston committed 5 fouls.
Dillon is 22-2 overall and 10-0 in region play.
The Lady Cougars arrived late, and Dillon Khw-Nylahi McKinnon sank 2 free throws to begin the action. Dillon’s Nylann Jones sank a layup for 2 points followed by Azyriah Ford who hit a 3 from the corner to give Dillon a 7-0 lead with 5:02 remaining in the first quarter.
Dillon’s Nylann Jones blocked a shot by Z. Lee. Jiana McGill added a 2-point layup for Dillon. The Cougars’ T. Delestine connected for a 3-point basket from the top of the key. Dillon’s Zynijah Pernell made a 2-point layup. North Charleston sank a 2-point basket to end the first quarter of play.
The action was fast as the two teams raced back and forth on the court.
Dillon’s Khw-Nylahi McKinnon led all scorers with 23 points. She had ten 2-point baskets and 3 free throws. Zayriah Ford added 12 points with two 3-point baskets, two 2-point baskets, and 2 free throws. Nylann Jones sank four 2-point baskets and a free throw for 9 points. Zynijah Pernell had two 3-point baskets, a 2-point basket, and a free throw for 9 points. Jiana McGill added a 2-point basket, and Jaleah Bethea sank a free throw.
North Charleston’s M. Lee led the Cougars with 10 points. She had two 3-point baskets and two 2-point baskets. T. Delestine sank three 3-point baskets for 9 points. M. Oneal added a 3-point basket. M. German and D. Major each had a 2-point basket.
