The Dillon Wildcats defeated the Manning Monarchs 28-6 in junior varsity football action played in Dillon on Thursday, September 11, at Dillon Memorial Stadium.
After taking the opening kickoff, Dillon wasted little time getting onto the scoreboard. With only 1 minute and 13 seconds into the game, Dillon had 6 points on the scoreboard! Dillon quickly added the 2-point conversion that was nullified due to a penalty. An attempted pass play fail on the 2-point conversion. Dillon led 6-0.
Dillon’s defense stopped Manning’s offense as Dillon stopped a run play, deflected a pass followed by an incomplete pass prior to the Monarchs’ punt that was blocked.
On Dillon’s 4th and 5 play, the Wildcats #3 scored a touchdown and followed with a 2-point conversion to give Dillon a 14-0 lead with 4:34 remaining in the first quarter.
The Monarchs began the offensive series with a run, an incomplete pass, and a sack prior to punting.
The next Dillon drive was capped off with a 3-yard touchdown by #3 with 5:55 remaining in the second quarter. Dillon’s 2-point conversion by #6 was nullified due to a penalty. The Wildcats attempted the same 2-point conversion but were denied. Dillon led 20-0.
After the kickoff to Manning, Dillon’s defense forced the turnover on downs.
With 3:51 remaining in the first half, Dillon’s #1 scampered for a 58-yard touchdown after the reception. #1 also carried the pigskin into the endzone for the 2-point conversion.
Dillon’s defense recovered a fumble on Manning’s attempted punt. Dillon had great field position on Manning’s 23-yard line. However, Dillon fumbled, and Manning recovered on their own 26-yard line.
After a big pickup on a pass play to Manning’s #15, Dillon’s #7 intercepted a pass and returned it for a big pickup.
Dillon fumbled, and Manning recovered the football on Manning’s 48-yard line with 40 seconds remaining in the first half.
After a carry by Manning’s #2 with only 11 seconds remaining in the first half, an incomplete pass intended for #1 failed. With 5 seconds remaining in the first half, Dillon’s #10 intercepted a pass. At halftime, Dillon was up 28-0.
Manning took the opening kickoff of the second half. Dillon’s defense prevailed, and the Wildcats took over. Forced to punt, Dillon fumbled the ball, and Manning recovered on Dillon’s 43-yard line to give the Monarchs great field position. Dillon’s defense stopped Manning’s offense. Dillon took over on downs.
After 3 quarters of play, Dillon led 28-0.
Manning managed to score on a run by #2 with 6:12 remaining in the game. The 2-point conversion attempt by #2 failed. Dillon led 28-6 and that would be the final score of the game.
Dillon will travel to Hartsville on Thursday, September 18, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
Manning will travel to Georgetown on Thursday, September 18, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
