The Dillon Lady Wildcats advanced to Round 2 of the SCHL varsity playoffs with a 60-18 win over the Georgetown Lady Bulldogs on Monday, February 17, in Dillon.
After the Dillon High School JROTC presented the colors, Georgetown controlled the tipoff.
Dillon’s Khwnylahi McKinnon scored the first 2 points of the game. Treasure Davis made 2 consecutive layups followed by Khwnylahi McKinnon with a layout and a free throw. With 4:08 remaining in the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats were up 9-0. Georgetown’s F. Satcher connected for two 2-point baskets in a row. Dillon’s Treasure Davis sank a free throw followed by Zadaiya Moody who connected for 2 layups in a row to give Dillon an 18-4 lead. The Bulldogs’ J. Tiondra banked 1 in for 2 points. Dillon’s Ayonna Lester responded with a 2-point basket. After the first quarter, the Dillon Lady Wildcats were up 23-6.
In the second quarter, Dillon’s Mariah Campbell rolled 1 in for 2 points followed by Treasure Davis who sank a 2-point basket. Georgetown followed by with 2-point basket. Dillon’s Mariah Campbell made a layup for 2 points. With 3:53 remaining in the first half, Dillon was up 29-8. D. Tacarra sank a free throw for Georgetown. Zynijah Pernell sank a 2-point shot and a free throw for the Lady Wildcats. Dillon’s Mariah Campbell added a 2-point basket as did Ayonna Lester. Mariah Campbell quickly sank two 2-point layups for Dillon to go up 40-9.
In the second quarter of play, each team committed only 1 foul.
Dillon’s Treasure Davis was recognized during halftime for her 1,000th point of her DHS varsity career.
The Lady Wildcats’ Treasure Davis sank a 2-point basket to begin the third quarter of play followed by Ayonna Lester who connected for 2 free throws for Dillon. After a scramble for a loose ball, Dillon’s Treasure Davis sank a 2-point basket followed by Ayonna Lester with a 2-point basket of her own. Georgetown’s D. Tacarra sank a free throw. Dillon’s Jiana McGill connected for a 2-point basket followed by Georgetown’s D. Makinizie who banked 1 in for 2 points. The Lady Wildcats’ Jiana McGill calmly sank 2 free throws followed by a 2-point basket by Treasure Davis. Georgetown’s J. Tiondra connected for a 2-point basket. After 3 quarters of play, Dillon was up 54-16. Dillon committed 5 fouls, and Georgetown committed 4 fouls in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Georgetown quickly added two 2-point baskets followed by a Dillon basket for 2 points. Georgetown’s D. Tacarra sank a free throw. The final points of the game were made by Georgetown’s D. Tacarra who sank 2 free throws.
Dillon will host Hanahan on Wednesday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m.
