The Dillon Wildcats defeated the Georgetown Bulldogs 57-50 in varsity basketball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, February 11.
This game was fast-paced and action packed throughout as was the game played in Georgetown on Saturday, February 1, that Georgetown won 53-48.
Dillon controlled the tipoff. Dillon’s #21quickly sank two 2-point baskets. The Wildcats’ #12 banked 1 in for 2 points to take a 6-0 lead before Georgetown sank a 3-point basket.
Dillon responded with a 3-point basket from #12. Dillon was up 12-3 before the Bulldogs’ Trenton Parker sank a 2-point basket. Dillon’s Jazier Walker scored a 2-point basket followed by the Bulldogs’ Aaron Mitchell who connected for a 2-point basket. Dillon’s #21 sank another 2-point basket. With 3:08 remaining in the first quarter, Dillon led 16-11. With 2:33 remaining in the first quarter, Dillon’s lead was cut to 1 point, 16-15. Georgetown’s Trenton Parker sank a 2-point basket to take a 17-16 lead. At halftime, Georgetown was up 21-19. Dillon committed only 1 foul in the first quarter, and Georgetown committed 4 fouls.
The Bulldog’s Jari Ford hit a 2-point basket to begin the second quarter that gave Georgetown a 4-point lead, 23-19. Dillon quickly took a 25-23 lead but Georgetown knotted the score at 25. The score was up and down and tied several times before Dillon managed to go up 36-29. The Bulldogs fought back and cut the lead to 6 points, 38-32. Dillon’s Zamaurious Robertson sank a long 3-point basket as time expired in the first half to give Dillon a 42-32 lead.
In the third quarter, Dillon was able to maintain a 10-point lead for only a short time as Georgetown cut the lead to 6 points, 46-40. With 3:24 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon was up by 5 points, 49-44, and with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter, Dillon led 52-46. At the end of 3 quarters, Dillon’s lead was 2 points, 54-52.
Dillon scored a 2-point basket to go up 56-52.
