The Dillon Wildcats defeated Battery Creek of Beaufort, S.C., on Friday, November 15, 42-7 in round 1 of the South Carolina High School League Stated Championships played in Dillon at Dillon Memorial Stadium.
The Dolphins kicked off to the Wildcats to begin the action. The onside kick was recovered by Battery Creek.
The Dolphins faced a fourth down and attempted a pass that was intercepted by Dan Graves who returned it 76 yards for the touchdown with 8:18 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas to give Dillon a 7-0 lead.
Dillon kicked off to Battery Creek. On first down, the Dolphins’ #2 carried for 16 yards. Battery Creek’s #6 carried the pigskin, fumbled, and Dillon recovered on their own 42-yard line. Zamarious Robertson’s reception was good for 9 yards. Ejan Green carried to the Dolphins’ 23-yard line. Jamarion Fling picked up a first down to Battery Creek’s 2-yard line. Jamarion Fling scored with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT by Stephen Rojas was good. Dillon led 14-0.
The Dolphins were forced to punt on fourth down and 5 yards to go. Cooper Livingston’s punt carried to Dillon’s 35-yard line.
Jamarion Fling quickly picked up a first down followed by Daniel Capehart who carried but a flag was thrown. Dillon’s Zamarious Robertson’s reception and carry was good for a first down. Daniel Capehart carried to the 3-yard line for a first down followed by his scoring from the 3-yard line with 9 seconds left in the first quarter. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon led 21-0.
Battery Creek returned the kickoff to the 50-yard line. Derrick Smalls, Jr. carried for a 19-yard pickup. After failing to pick up a first down, Dillon took over on downs.
On the sixth play on offense, Dillon’s Trayvon Blue scored a 3-yard touchdown with 6:47 remaining in the second quarter. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas to give Dillon a 28-0 lead.
The Wildcats kicked off, and Derrick Smalls, Jr. returned the kickoff for a touchdown with 6:34 remaining in the first half. The PAT was good by Cooper Livingston to cut Dillon’s lead to 21 points, 28-7.
With 4:39 remaining in the first half, Daniel Capehart rushed for a 20-yard score. The PAT was good by Stephen Rojas. Dillon led 35-7.
After the kickoff to the Dolphins, Battery Creek’s #2 carried followed by an incomplete pass to the Dolphins’ #3. Battery Creek faced a fourth down and 17 yards to go and attempted a pass that was incomplete. Dillon took over on the 30-yard line of Dillon.
The Wildcats enjoyed a 35-7 lead at halftime.
At halftime, Mr. Dudley was named the Teacher of the Week, an event that is sponsored by Scrubby’s Car Wash.
Dillon kicked off to the Dolphins to begin the second half of play. Battery Creek was forced to punt as was the Dillon Wildcats.
The third quarter was scoreless.
With about 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Dillon’s #43 rushed for a 9-yard touchdown. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good to give Dillon a 42-7 lead that would be the final score of the game.
Dillon will travel to Newberry on Friday, November 22.
