The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors JV team won 19-18 over Florence Christian Lady Eagles in junior varsity basketball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, February 4.
After the first quarter of play, Florence Christian led 8-4.
In the second quarter, after 2 unsuccessful 3-point attempts by Florence Christian, one unsuccessful 3-point attempts by Dillon Christian, Florence Christian connected for a 3-point basket to go up 11-4. Dillon Christian’s #1 connected for a free throw with 2 attempts. Florence Christian’s #4 was fouled and connected for a free throw with 2 attempts. Dillon Christian’s #22 sank a 3-point shot from the corner. At halftime, Florence Christian led 12-8.
In the beginning of the third quarter, Dillon Christian’s #3 banked one in for 2 points and a free throw. Florence Christian held a slim 1-point lead, 12-11. Dillon Christian’s #4 hit a 3-point basket to take a 14-12 lead. After 3 quarters of play, Dillon Christian led 14-12.
In the fourth quarter of regulation play, Florence Christian’s #5 was fouled and made 1 of 2 free throws. With 5:03 remaining in the game, Dillon Christian led 14-13. Florence Christian’s #4 was fouled and sank 2 free throws to take a 15-14 lead with 3:44 remaining in regulation play. Florence Christian’s #5 sank one of 2 free throws to give Florence Christian a 16-14 lead. After 2 Dillon Christian School players missed both free throws at the charity line, Florence Christian held a 2-point lead, 16-14, with 2:17 remaining in regulation play. Dillon Christian’s #22 sank 1 of 2 free throws to cut the lead to 1, 16-15. Dillon Christian’s #3 sank 1 of 2 free throws to knot the score at 16 to force a 3-minute overtime period.
Dillon Christian’s #15 sank both free throws to go up 18-16. After Florence Christian missed both free throws, Florence Christian’s #4 connected for a 2-point basket to knot the score at 18. Florence Christian went to the charity line 2 more times but were unsuccessful. Dillon Christian’s #4 sank 1 of 2 free throws to give the Lady Warriors a 19-18 lead. Dillon Christian School had another opportunity at the free throw line but were unsuccessful. With 11.5 seconds remaining in the overtime period.
