The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors took down the visiting Lake View Lady Wild Gators 35-30 in varsity basketball action played in Dillon on Thursday, February 16.
Dillon Christian School controlled the opening tipoff, and Shelby Dial sank a 2-point basket that was followed by another Dillon 2-point basket. Lake View’s Callie Smith answered with a 3-point basket. A scramble for a loose ball provided some excitement prior to the Warriors’ Lily King who hit a 2-point basket. With 2:24 remaining in the first quarter, Lily King scored a 2-point shot followed by another 2-point basket. Lake View’s Lily English sank a free throw.
After the first quarter of play, Dillon Christian School held a 2-point lead, 8-6.
The Warriors’ Molly Andrews connected for a 2-point basket. Shayla Johnson banked in a 2-point basket for the Lady Wild Gators with 5:33 remaining in the second quarter. Lake View’s Callie Smith hit a 3-point basket with 3:59 remaining in the first half to cut the Warriors’ lead to 3 points, 12-9. Both Dillon and Lake View cheerleading squads encouraged their teams to make a great effort throughout. A great pass from Braylen Clark to Warrior Chloe Powell netted a 2-point basket. The Wild Gators’ Sophia Rogers hit a long 3-point shot. At halftime, Dillon Christian School Warriors were up 16-13.
In the opening moments of the third quarter, Lake View connected for a 3-point basket to knot the score at 16. The Warriors answered with a 3-point basket to go up 19-16. Lake View’s Jocelyn Myers shot was blocked followed by Shayla Johnson’s shot blocked by Warrior Shelby Dial. With 4:59 remaining in the third quarter, Da’Myra Page hit a 3-point basket to knot the score at 19. The Warriors’ Chloe Powell’s attempted layup failed. Chloe Powell sank a free throw to give the Warriors a slim 1-point lead. The Wild Gators’ Sophia Rogers was fouled on an attempted layup with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter. Sophia Rogers sank a free throw to knot the score at 20. Braylen Carter managed a 3-point score the old-fashioned way, a 2-point basket and a free throw, to give Dillon Christian School a 23-20 lead. Braylin Carter made a 2-point basket to give the Warriors a 25-20 lead. As time was expiring in the third quarter, the Warriors managed another 2-point basket to close out the third quarter up by 7 points, 27-20.
Braylin Carter sank a free throw to begin the final quarter of play followed by a 2-point basket to give the Lady Warriors a 10-point lead, 30-20. Lake View’s Alexis Blackman sank a 2-point basket. The Warriors’ Chloe Powell sank a free throw. With 3:52 remaining in the game, Lake View hit a 3-point basket. Dillon Christian School’s Braylin Carter connected for another free throw. Lake View managed a 3-point basket with 1:28 remaining in the game to cut Dillon Christian School’s lead to 5-points, 33-28. The Warriors’ Alayna Locklear sank 2 free throws. Lake View’s Callie Smith sank a free throw to close out the scoring in the final moment.
Dillon Christian School will host Lee Academy on Thursday, January 23.
Lake View will travel to Green Sea Floyds on Tuesday, January 21, for a 6:15 p.m. game.
