Dillon Christian School Defeats Lake View 59-45 In Overtime

Dillon Christian School defeated Lake View 59-45 in varsity boys basketball action played in Dillon on Thursday, January 16.
Dillon Christian School controlled the opening tipoff. The Warriors’ Jackson Outlar opened scoring with a 3-point basket. Lake View’s Caleb Roundtree responded with a 2-point basket. Jackson Outlar has his next shot blocked, and Lake View scored a 2-point basket to take a slim 1-point lead, 4-3. Terrence Alford added 2 free throws for Lake View. Cameron Wheeler laid one in for the Wild Gators to go up 8-3. The Warriors’ Jackson Outlar added a 2-point basket followed by the Warriors connecting for another 2 point basket to close the gap to 1-point, 8-7. Lake View added a free throw to go up 9-7. Jackson Outlar laid one in for 2 points to tie at 9. With 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Dillon was up 11-9.
In the beginning of the second quarter, Ja’mire Barden hit a basket for 2 points to knot the score at 11. The Warriors’ Braxton Cummings laid one in for 2 points. Lake View’s Jalen Clarke passed to Ja’mire Barden who connected for 2 points to once again knot the score at 13. Dillon’s Reese Bracey added a 2-point basket to go up 15-13. Gray Easterling rolled one in for 2 points. Dillon’s lead was 17-13. The Wild Gators’ Terrence Alford connected for a 3-point basket to cut the Warriors’ lead to 1 point, 17-16. The Warriors added a 3-point basket. With 2:28 remaining in the first half, Caleb Roundtree knotted the score at 20 with a 2-point basket. The Warriors’ Braxton Cummings sank a free throw that was answered by Timothy Waters’ 2 free throws to give Lake View a 23-21 lead with 1:01 remaining in the first half. The Warrior’s McKinnon Sampson had his shot blocked to prevent a score. Jackson Outlar attempted a 3-point basket as the buzzer sounded to end the first half with Lake View on top 23-21.
In the third quarter of play, Lake View outscored Dillon Christian School 13-8. In the fourth quarter, Dillon Christian School added 15 points while holding Lake View to 8 points to force overtime. In the overtime period, Lake View could muster only 1 point while Dillon Christian School added 15 points to claim the win.
Fouls played an integral role in the game.
Dillon Christian School’s Jackson Outlar led all scorers with 24 points. He connected for seven 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 7 free throws. Reese Bracey added 17 points with eight 2-point baskets and a free throw. Braxton Cummings place 7 points onto the scoreboard with three 2-point baskets and a free throw. Jordan Blackmon added three 2-point baskets for 6 points. McKinnon Sampson added a 3-point basket, and Gray Easterling added a 2-point basket.
Terrence Alford led Lake View with 12 points. He had three 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 3 free throws. Cameron Wheeler had three 2-point baskets and 2 free throws for 8 points. Ja’mire Barden also added 8 points. He had two 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and a free throw. Caleb Roundtree had three 2-point baskets and a free throw. Timothy Waters added two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws for 7 points. Jonathan Carter had a 2-point basket and a free throw for 3 points.
Dillon Christian School varsity boys will play in the MLK Tournament in Marion, S.C. on Saturday/Monday, January 18-21.
Lake View will travel to Green Sea Floyds on Tuesday, January 21.
