Detention Center Administrator Sarah Samuel Recognized For 27 Years Of Service

Captain Sarah Samuel was recognized for her 27 years in law enforcement as a Detention Officer as of June 5th, 2024. Captain Samuel serves as the Dillon County Detention Center Jail Administrator.
Captain Samuel began her career at the Dillon County Jail (as it was known back then) under the leadership of Dillon County Council. After moving to the new Detention Center in 1998, Sheriff Harold Grice took over leadership of the Detention Center a few years later. Captain Samuel has worked under 4 Sheriffs: Sheriff Harold Grice, Sheriff Major Hulon, Sheriff Douglas Pernell and now Sheriff Jamie Hamilton.
Captain Samuel said, “I got discouraged because things weren’t going the way I planned, so I quit.”
“I learned that God’s plan is not like man’s plans,” and she ended up coming back and has provided loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Dillon County.
During her career at the Detention Center, Captain Samuel has made history herself. Captain Samuel worked her way up to the assistant jail administrator twice. In 2018, she became the first female Jail Administrator of Dillon County. Captain Samuel said, “See what God has for you, no man can take that away. One of my biggest achievements was becoming a part of Dillon County history.”
Captain Samuel said, “I had to learn when you are in Leadership, your words and actions matter. Everyone is somebody whether you are an officer or an inmate. I enjoy what I do, and I can’t wait to see my future endeavors.”
Sheriff Hamilton appreciates the many years of service, hard work and dedication Captain Samuel provides daily and wishes her many more years with Dillon County.
