Lake View’s football quest for a state title came to an end on Friday, December 6, with a 36-7 defeat against Cross at Cross.
Lake View’s lone score came with 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter on a 35-yard pass play to Ashton Locklear to give Lake View a 6-0 lead. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. Lake View led 7-0.
Cross moved the football inside of Lake View’s 20-yard line but soon faced a fourth and 10 and turned the football over to Lake View with about 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Lake View was forced to punt. Cross had the football on their own 40-yard line. Cross again moved the football inside of Lake View’s 20-yard line with about 8 minutes to go in the second quarter. Cross scored with a 9-yard pass to Caden Ramsey for the touchdown to cut Lake View’s lead to 1 point. The PAT was no good. Lake View led 7-6.
With about 3 minutes to go in the first half, Lake View was inside Cross’ 20-yard line. Cross intercepted a pass and scored. The PAT was missed but Cross was up 12-7.
With under a minute to go in the first half, Cross recovered a fumble and returned it 35 yards for the score. The 2-point conversion was good on a Karmello Jones carry to give Cross a 20-7 lead at halftime.
Cross wasted little time in scoring in the third quarter with about 10 minutes remaining with a rushing touchdown. Cross also rushed for the 2-point conversion to go up 28-7.
The final score of the game came on a 5-yard carry by #6 followed by a Caden Ramsey 2-point carry for the 2-point conversion to give Cross a 36-7 lead.
