Toria McIver is a 48-year-old single mother from Florence, SC, devoted to her three children, Brittany, Kiera, and Joshua, and determined to move forward despite mounting health challenges. She was a seasoned financial software trainer for ACS Technologies for 9 years until she had her third lapse with MS. This resulted in a month-long hospital stay and therapy to begin to walk again. Her journey began in 2012, when life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Over the past decade, she has faced countless relapses, and hospital stays that tested her physical and emotional resilience. A major surgery in 2016 led to severe medication reactions and kidney shock, that initiated a decline in renal function. The COVID-19 pandemic aftermath culminated in a collapsed left lung and prolonged respiratory recovery, and in June 2025, she had sudden
emergency open-heart surgery. Today, her kidneys function at critically low levels, requiring dialysis.
She has been placed on the National Transplant List for a dual kidney-pancreas transplant through
MUSC Charleston, MUSC Lancaster, or UNC Chapel Hill. Despite mounting health setbacks, she remains a pillar of strength for her children and extended family. She advocates daily for her children’s well-being, ensuring they thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. She also continues to lead worship and community events (when her health allows), emphasizing resilience, faith, and collective care. As she navigates the complex journey toward transplantation, she will require home accessibility improvements, installation of a mobility ramp, and stair lift to ensure safe, independent movement, as well as ongoing medical expenses, coverage for medications, frequent hospital visits, dialysis sessions, and travel between transplant centers. This benefit will directly underwrite these critical needs, allowing her to focus on recovery, maintaining stability for her family, and continuing to inspire others. Toria’s unwavering commitment to her children, her community, and to her own personal growth speaks to a life defined not by illness, but by courage, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of hope.
