To The Editor:
I would take the time to write to you about the wonderful experience we had at Marion County Airport a few weeks ago. We were on our way from near Toronto to Florida and the Bahamas in our plane and due to weather picked Marion County as our fuel stop. I called ahead and found out that the Manager was there that weekend (due to the storm), fuel was available and anything else that we needed.
When we did arrive, there were lower clouds, ice rain, wind and all the other things that were associated with the storm that weekend. We were greeted by Charles Taylor and I can honestly say I loved his enthusiasm right from the start and the help that he provided us. We weren’t going anywhere due to the weather, so he called a hotel and lined up a room for us and let us use the courtesy car to get to the hotel. He went way above what most people would do.
We ended up being there for 2 nights due to the weather and I had time to talk to Charles at length about the airport, aviation in South Carolina and pretty much everything else aviation and saw his enthusiasm for all of it. He’s a great ambassador for your group and the airport. As an airport manager in Canada, I like to look at other airports and see what I can do to make my airport better. I have taken more than a few ideas from Charles that I know will improve our airport.
We came back to Marion County two weeks later on our return to Canada for fuel and to say Hi. I have told a lot of people already from here that Marion is a great choice for a stop on the way south. I love to promote great airports and airport systems like it seems you have.
Great airport and fabulous people, we will be back.
Have a great day.
