Valerie Graves is the first African American and the first woman to serve as the Veterans Affairs Officer in Dillon County. “The feeling was amazing for me to be chosen out of several to be appointed to the position as Dillon County Veterans Affairs Director,” said Valerie. “My supervisor, Mr. Jerry Huggins, led by example and he said be strong because it’s not easy. I thank God for allowing all this opportunity. It’s been 26 years in the same office, but the feeling I get when there paperwork is approved is amazing. To be recognized for my achievements is again a honor and it is a privilege to serve,” Valerie said.
