On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Latta Police Department along with Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jack Donaven Lewis of Bennettsville on charges relating to a scam operation that victimized citizens of Latta and Dillon County.
Chief Zane Bryant said, “During a joint investigation it was discovered that Lewis masterminded the scam operation where he would contact citizens and merchants, portraying himself to be someone else, and requesting money and/or goods. Lewis preyed upon the victims by using their trusting and willingness to help others mentality against them. Through efforts from Latta PD and our partnering agencies, Lewis’ scheme has been exposed and we’re committed to bringing it to an end!”
Lewis is believed to be the mastermind behind the operation. More charges are forthcoming as well as additional arrest as the investigation is ongoing. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
