Columbia, SC—December 20, 2024, Historic Columbia, a leader in preserving the City of Columbia’s historic and cultural heritage, awarded Benedict College the 2024 Preservation Award. The honor recognizes the institution’s preservation activities conducted at Morgan Hall, the oldest building in the Benedict College Historic District.
The recognition highlights the exemplary efforts of businesses, institutions, and individuals that maintain the City’s built heritage. The award also recognizes rehabilitation work conducted on the historic structure by Hood Construction with architectural oversight by Tiara Williams of BOUDREAUX and LCK, LLC, project managers.
The College’s preservation work stemmed from an initial $500,000 grant from the National Park Service’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant program. To date, the College has received more than $5 million from the agency to preserve the institution’s Historic District.
