The Dillon County Theatre will host Kathryn Smith, who will present her book, “Missy LeHand Tells All” on March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
This event is free to the public. The book is based on Marguerite A. LeHand, who worked for President Franklin D. Roosevelt as his private secretary, friend, and confidante for more than 20 years. The audience can expected to find Smith in period costume and speaking with a Boston accent during the presentation. When she removes her hat midway through the presentation, the audience will hear the “rest of the story.”
Smith is a former newspaper reporter and editor who now spends her time writing and speaking about history. She is the author of The Gatekeeper, the first biography of FDR’s private secretary and de facto White House Chief of Staff Marguerite A. LeHand, and Gertie: The Fabulous Life of Gertrude Sanford Legendre, which won the Benjamin Franklin Gold Award from the National Independent Book Publishers Association, and two books about “Prohibition in the South: Baptists and Bootleggers and “Methodists and Moonshiners.” Kathryn lives in Anderson, S.C. with her husband, Leo.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The theatre is located at 114 North MacArthur Avenue, Dillon.
