As South Carolina Human Trafficking Awareness Month comes to an end, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is making it clear: South Carolina will never be a safe haven for human traffickers. Under Wilson’s leadership, the state has made historic strides in the fight against this modern-day slavery, and the battle is far from over. We want to thank the men and women on our human trafficking task force who have dedicated thousands of hours to combatting this vile act.
“When I became Attorney General, South Carolina didn’t even have a human trafficking law on the books,” said Attorney General Wilson. “That was unacceptable. I fought to pass legislation that finally made human trafficking a crime in our state, and I founded the S.C. Human Trafficking Task Force to take the fight straight to these criminals. We have built this fight from the ground up, and now, we are stronger than ever. If you traffic human beings in South Carolina, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will put you behind bars.”
Thanks to the aggressive efforts of the Attorney General’s Office and the S.C. Human Trafficking Task Force, the state has seen unprecedented action against traffickers and stronger support for survivors.
In 2024 alone:
-392 victims (adults and minors) were identified and connected with recovery services
-285 tips were investigated
-37 different defendants had a total of 62 charges pending for human trafficking in South Carolina State Courts
-28 human trafficking cases were closed
Wilson’s leadership has led to tougher laws, expanded law enforcement training, and a network of partners working together to dismantle trafficking rings. The Attorney General has worked tirelessly to ensure victims receive the resources they need, while traffickers face the full force of the law.
“This is not just an awareness campaign—it’s a war,” Wilson continued. “We are taking the fight directly to the traffickers, and we will not stop until every single one of them is behind bars. We are not just fighting for justice; we are fighting for lives.”
Attorney General Wilson urges every South Carolinian to join the fight by reporting suspicious activity, supporting survivors, and staying informed.
