An arrest has been made in a recent shooting in Newtown.
On April 23rd, 2025 around 8:33 p.m., Deputies were dispatched to Lockemy Highway in the Newtown Community in reference to two unresponsive individuals. Upon deputies arriving on scene, it was discovered the two male individuals had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
During the investigation, it was determined the victims were approached by the suspect, who asked for money and ultimately shot the victims.
The victims were transported to an area hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Rashad Marquane Coatney from Dillon, SC. He has been charged and arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery, Possession of a weapon during a violent crime and two counts of Attempted Murder. He is being held at the Dillon County Detention Center where his bond was denied by a Magistrate Judge.
