City of Dillon Judge Alan Berry was sworn into another term on Tuesday morning with his wife, Christy, and his daughter, Madison, at his side.
Magistrate Judge Mackie Hayes administered the oath. Prior to the swearing in, Mayor Tally McColl spoke about how fortunate the City of Dillon was to have Hayes and Berry as magistrate calling them “quality guys.” McColl said he thought it was important for people to see the standards the city sets and how important they take law enforcement and the criminal justice system. He thanked them for their service. He thanked Berry’s family for coming as well.
After McColl’s remarks, the oath was administered.
Judge Mackie Hayes, who is in his 21st year as a magistrate, said Berry was an attorney and that he was the only attorney that is a judge in the whole county. Hayes said they are very, very fortunate to have Berry. He said he was thankful every day for Berry and if there was a legal question, he has a better background than the other judges and they can call on him if they have a question. Hayes said they work together flawlessly. He said Berry was a good man, and he wished he could be like him sometimes. He said Berry was a big asset.
Berry has been a City of Dillon judge for two years. Prior to that, he served as the judge in the Town of Latta for two years. He has been an attorney for 12 years and also served in law enforcement for 15 years.
