An accidental release of ammonia occurred outside Perdue’s harvest plant in Dillon, South Carolina, today, Tuesday, July 2nd, during maintenance of an outdoor refrigeration system, according to a Perdue spokesperson. The contracted technician was transported to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident. The incident was immediately reported to the appropriate authorities, and there was no risk to the surrounding community, the spokesperson said.. The plant remained operational, and no other injuries were reported.
“We are investigating the cause and remain committed to the health and safety of everyone on our property or in our facilities,” the spokesperson said.
