The Dillon Lady Wildcats shut out the Waccamaw Lady Warriors of Pawley’s Island 3-0 in varsity softball playoffs held in Dillon on Wednesday, May 13.
In the bottom of the first inning with the Lady Warriors’ #2 on the mound, Dillon’s Makeena Meekins garnered a lead-off walk. She quickly stole second. Kanyla Tanksley went down swinging. Zoee Chavis hit a grounder to the pitcher and was out at first as Makeena Meekins moved to third base. Jayla Wright hit a fly to short center that dropped in as she was safe and first and Makeena Meekins scored the first run of the game to give Dillon a 1-0 lead. Jayla Wright stole second on a passed ball. Dillon’s #5 hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi to give a 2-0 lead.
Dillon added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 3-0.
Dillon connected for 8 hits in the game. Makeena Meekins connected for a double, 2 singles, a walk, and scored 2 runs in her 4-plate appearances. Jayla Wright singles and picked up a rbi in her 3 at-bats. #4 had a single in the game. #5 singled in the game.
The Lady Wildcats’ Makeena Meekins stole 3 bases in the game while K. Tanksley stole a base.
Dillon committed 2 errors in the game while Waccamaw committed only 1 error.
Waccamaw had 4 hits in the game with #19 with a single. #12, M. Googer had 2 hits.
Dillon’s Jayla Wright pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 hits, no runs, walked 1, and struck out 3 of the 28 batters she faced.
Waccamaw’s R. Rutkowski pitched 4 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 2 of the 21 batters she faced. C. Googer pitched 2innings and faced 8 batters.
