The Dillon Wildcats shut out the Darlington Falcons 16-0 in varsity baseball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, March 10.
The stadium was buzzing after Gregg Dozier, former Dillon High School varsity baseball coach, was honored.
The Darlington Falcons were retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning with Dillon’s #10 on the mound.
In the bottom of the first inning, JJ Campbell, lead-off hitter, got the game going as he drove one to center and ended up on second. Hank Grider hit one to short center for a single, and Campbell moved to third. Campbell scored on a passed ball. Dillon’s #5 managed to get on first and stole second. Dillon’s #7 stole third. Dillon’s #1 was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Wildcats’ #3 walked and a run scored with the bases loaded. Nibras Harrison was at bat when Dillon’s base runner on third scored as the catcher dropped the baseball. With the bases loaded, two Dillon players stuck out swinging followed by another who popped up to the pitcher for out 3. Dillon placed 3 runs onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning.
The Dillon Wildcats added 6 runs in the bottom of the second inning, 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning, and 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to close out the game.
C. Paschal and S. Whaley were on the mound for Darlington.
Darlington committed 5 errors in the game.
Dillon is 3-1 overall. Darlington is 1-3 overall.
Darlington will host Crestwood on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. and will travel to Crestwood on Thursday, March 12, for a 6:30 p.m. game start.
Dillon will travel to Darlington on Friday, March 13, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
