COLUMBIA (March 9, 2026) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation will begin work on replacing the Shannon Road (S-87) bridge over Smith Swamp in Marion County on March 15.
The bridge was deemed structurally deficient and closed after an inspection in June 2024. The bridge is expected to reopen in November 2026.
All traffic will be detoured around the project. A map of the detour can be found below.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving through the area.
