CELEBRATING WOMEN: Alison Moody

Alison Moody
Dillon, S.C.

Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and/or your personal journey.
A.
I am Dillon born and Dillon bred — and proud of it. Dillon has always been home. I graduated from Dillon High School in 1998, where I cheered for the Wildcats and participated in Anchor Club, Beta Club, and softball. I continued my education at Clemson University and Francis Marion University.

While attending college, I worked at a Child Development Center, where my passion for working with children was firmly established. After earning my degree, I began my teaching career at South Elementary. I later moved to Stewart Heights Elementary, where I served as a kindergarten teacher and was honored to be named Teacher of the Year in 2015. During my early years in education, I returned to Francis Marion University to earn my Master’s degree in Education.

I subsequently served as a reading coach at East Elementary before transitioning back into the classroom at Dillon Elementary, where I currently teach. One of the most challenging yet rewarding periods of my career was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I taught virtually. During that time, I was humbled to be recognized as Dillon County’s Best of the Best Teacher.

Teaching kindergarten has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I have been blessed to work alongside dedicated colleagues and to serve students and families in a community I deeply love.

In addition to my work in education, I had the honor of serving as chair of Dillon County’s Relay for Life for three years. That experience reinforced my belief in the generosity and compassion of our community. Cancer affects us all, and I remain committed to supporting efforts to find a cure.

Q. What is one of your biggest accomplishments?
A.
My greatest accomplishment is my two sons, Hayden and Ethan Moody. They are my greatest source of pride and joy.

Q. Who has been an influential figure in your life and why?
A.
My family has been the most influential force in my life. My parents raised me in a Christian home and instilled in me the values of faith, perseverance, and hard work. They taught me that natural ability is important, but consistent effort is what truly leads to success.

Coach Dee Conn taught me resilience and determination, encouraging me to push forward even in difficult moments. My brother, Brent Hardy, continues to model the power of faith and diligence.

Above all, my upbringing taught me that faith sustains us during life’s most challenging seasons and that grace and mercy should be extended generously to others.

Q. What is the best advice you have ever received?
A.
Allow God to guide your path in His timing, and be mindful of your words, as they cannot be taken back once spoken.

Q. Fun fact about yourself.
A.
I love waterfalls and will gladly venture off the beaten path to find one. I also enjoy sitting by the ocean, simply taking in its beauty and peacefulness.

Q. Hobbies / What do you like to do in your spare time?
A.
I enjoy traveling with those who mean the most to me. I appreciate the energy of cities like New York and Chicago, as well as the natural beauty of places such as South Dakota, Iowa, and West Virginia. Whether it is the beach, the mountains, or somewhere in between, I find joy in experiencing the beauty of God’s creation.

Q. What is the key to success?
A.
Success is rooted in joy, gratitude, and contentment. If you can find joy in each day, cherish time with those you love, and approach life with a grateful heart, you are successful. For me, success is measured in the hugs from my sons, the smiles of my kindergarten students, and the fulfillment that comes from serving others.
