A Black History Month Program, titled “Present Day Black Excellence”, was held at Dillon High School at the Auditorium on Friday, February 20.
There were art pieces provided by the talented students of Mrs. Horvath, Ms. Owens, Mr. Dudley, and Mr. Smith that were set up in a gallery walk and mini museum.
The DHS band students presented an instrumental music score, “Georgia On My Mind”.
Maurice L. Robinson, DHS Assistant Principal, welcomed everyone to the program.
The Dillon JROTC Color Guard presented the colors.
There was a BHM introduction video followed by a music selection, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by the DHS Gospel Choir.
DHS student, Antywan Dunson, presented a tribute to the late Rev. Jackson.
Dillon County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lt. Bobby Porter was the first guest speaker. Porter was followed by a poetry selection #1, “Ego Tripping” by Nikki Giovanni performed by Zy’Kiera Aaron.
A dance selection #1 was performed by the DHSZ Dancers.
Poetry Selection #2 followed by Antwan Drawhorn, Jr.
The DHS GT Chorus performed “Hold On”, a music selection.
Mrs. Tahitha James followed as the #2 guest speaker.
The Elite Dance group followed with Dance Selection #2.
There was a music selection by the DHS Transportation Staff followed by a music selection, “Run This Race”, by DHS Gospel Choir.
Closing remarks completed the program.
