The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the Carvers Bay Lady Bears 60-21 in varsity basketball played in Dillon on Monday, December 8.
Dillon controlled the tip-off, and the Lady Wildcats placed the first 2 points onto the scoreboard. Carvers Bay answered with a 3-point basket and a free throw to take a 4-2 lead. Khw-Nylahi McKinnon quickly added two 2-point baskets for the Lady Wildcats, followed by Treasure Davis who followed with a lay-up of her own to give Dillon an 8-4 lead. Treasure Davis added a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket followed by Khw-Nylahi McKinnon who connected for a 2-point basket. The Lady Bears’ Zeniah Smith sank a free throw. Kindace Hutchinson added a 2-point basket for Carvers Bay. Khw-Nylahi McKinnon laid one in for 2 points to close-out the first quarter with Dillon on top 17-7. Dillon committed 5 fouls in the first quarter while Carvers Bay committed only 1 foul.
At halftime, Dillon was up 26-10. In the second quarter, each team committed 2 fouls.
In the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats added 14 points while holding the Lady Bears to only 2 points. Each team committed 4 fouls.
In the final quarter, Dillon added 20 points, and Carvers Bay added 8 points. Dillon committed 4 fouls while Carvers Bay committed only 1 foul.
Dillon’s Khw-Nylahi McKinnon led all scorers with 28 points. She had nine 2-point baskets, three 3-point baskets, and a free throw. Treasure Davis added 16 points with five 2-point baskets and two 3-point baskets. Zynijah Pernell added two 2-point baskets and a 3-point basket for 7 points for the Lady Wildcats. Jiana McGill had two 2-points baskets. Azyriah Ford had a 3-point basket.
The Lady Bears’ Mackenzie Collins led her team in scoring with 7 points. She had two 2-point baskets and a 3-point basket. Kaidyn Holmes added 5 points to the scoreboard with two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws. Kandace Hutchinson had two 2-point baskets. Zenich Smith had a 3-point basket. Temani Rice had a 2-point basket.
Dillon will travel to Latta on Thursday, December 11, for a 6:30 pm. game. On Saturday, December 13, Dillon will host Marion at 5:00 p.m.
Carvers Bay will travel to Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, December 10, for a 6:00 p.m. game. On Saturday, December 13, Carvers Bay will host Virtus Academy.
