SLED Celebrates Opening of New Pee Dee Regional Office

SLED Pee Dee Regional Captain Glenn Wood, Dean Wilson – Vice President of Construction Management at Hood Construction, Ben Whitener – Principal at Moseley (Design Team), Dr. Luther F. Carter – President of Francis Marion University, SLED Chief Mark Keel, Mrs. Jean Leatherman – wife of the late South Carolina Senator Hugh Leatherman (R – District 31), and SLED Assistant Chief Richard Gregory.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is proud to announce the opening of the new Pee Dee Regional Office on the campus of Francis Marion University. The agency was
joined by Mrs. Jean Leatherman, the wife of the late South Carolina Senator Hugh Leatherman (R – District 31), Dr. Fred Carter, the President of Francis Marion University,
and other community partners for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
“This new office gives us a space we can call our own,” said SLED Chief Mark Keel. “And this is the first stand-alone regional office for SLED. It was built and designed to serve as a model for the other regions in the years to come.”
The new regional office was made possible by the support of the Governor and General Assembly, led by the support and dedication of former Finance Committee Chairman Hugh
Leatherman. Chairman Leatherman’s vision came to life with the design and construction by Moseley, Ervin Engineering, and Hood Construction.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 29, 2024. Construction was completed on April15, 2025, and SLED was issued the Certificate of Occupancy on April 24. Employees began
moving in soon after. The project had a total cost of approximately $6.8 Million.
The facility now serves the counties of Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Sumter, and Williamsburg. Offices in the new building include spaces where SLED Agents can conduct criminal investigations for local and state law enforcement, coroners, solicitors, and the Attorney General.
The new building’s large multi-purpose room will serve as an emergency operations center and safe haven during natural disasters and support SLED’s assistance to local law enforcement.
Internships and volunteer programs will be available to provide criminal justice students with practical law enforcement experience.
