Dillon Wins 20-6 Over Marlboro County In Varsity Football

The Dillon Wildcats wo 20-6 over the Marlboro County Bulldogs on Friday, October 17, in a varsity football game played in Bennettsville.
The first half was a defensive battle between the two foes as each team only scored once.
Dillon took the opening kickoff and had to punt on fourth down. However, a roughing the punter call of fourth down gave the Wildcats a first down. Nibras Harrison quickly picked up a first down. After 2 rushing plays, Dillon completed a pass for a first down. The Wildcats faced a third down and 11 yards to go. Dominick Felton made a reception and picked up a first down. The drive ended with a 27-yard pass from K. Sam Fong-Talia to Zamarious Robertson to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead with 8:09 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT failed.
The Marlboro County Bulldogs picked up a first down before having to punt to Dillon. The punt placed the Wildcats on their own 4-yard line.
The Bulldogs intercepted a pass and scored with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT failed but the score was knotted at 6.
The defensive battle heated up, and Dillon’s JJ Campbell punted on fourth down.
Marlboro County faced a third down and 6 yards to go and managed to pick up a first down. The drive stalled, and the Bulldogs punted.
The Wildcats managed a first down before Marlboro County’s #6 intercepted a pass. After a first down, the Bulldogs’ #9 was on the receiving end of a first down pass. Marlboro County attended a pass into the end zone that was incomplete. The Bulldogs attempted a field goal that failed.
The Wildcats took possession and went to work. K. Sam Fong-Talia picked up a first down with a 20-yard carry followed by a 40-yard pass reception and carry by Zamaurious Robertson that was followed by another first down by Dillon. After another completed pass for a first down was nullified by a penalty, Dillon found themselves with a third down and 17 yards to go. Dillon was on Marlboro County’s 15-yard line with 41.8 seconds remaining in the first half. An incomplete pass in the end zone stopped the drive.
The Bulldogs took possession on their own 15-yard line and allowed the 34.2 seconds to expire.
At halftime the score was tied at 6.
The Marlboro County Band performed at halftime to the delight of the fans.
The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff in the third quarter but were forced to turn the football over on downs.
With 55.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter, K. Sam Fong-Talia scored to give the Wildcats a 12-6 lead. The PAT failed.
The final touchdown score of the game was a 70-yard pass interception and carry by Dillon’s Zamaurious Robertson with 10:31 remaining in the game. The 2-point conversion carry by K. Sam Fong-Talia was good. Dillon led 20-6.
Dillon will host Waccamaw on Friday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m.
Marlboro County will travel to Loris on Friday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m.
