Dillon County Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Felony DUI with Great Bodily Injury

DILLON, S.C. – On September 25, 2025, Judge Gibbons sentenced Brayan Haberlay Reyes Guanon to twelve years in prison after he pled guilty to Felony DUI with Great Bodily Injury. Following the completion of his sentence, Guanon will be deported to Chiapas, Mexico under an ICE hold.

The case stemmed from an October 13, 2023, crash in Dillon County. At approximately 8:00 a.m., Guanon was driving when he struck another vehicle, causing it to flip. The driver of the second vehicle was ejected and sustained life-altering injuries. A subsequent investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) and laboratory testing conducted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed that Guanon’s blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit at the time of the collision.

“This case is a tragic reminder of how one person’s choice to drink and drive can change lives forever,” said Fourth Circuit Solicitor Paul “Mike” Burch. “Our office will continue to hold impaired drivers accountable and fight to protect innocent people on South Carolina’s roads.”

The case was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, SLED, and ICE. It was prosecuted by Special Prosecutor John Jepertinger of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
