The Town of Latta has been making preparations for the past couple of days, said Latta’s Assistant Town Administrator Brad Coward, who said he has been out working since 7 a.m. today (Friday) on storm preparations. They have been cleaning ditches to alleviate flooding and will be bringing in sand on Monday for citizens to get. There is already sand at the Oak Grove Fire Department for citizens to pick up. Assistant Administrator Coward, Councilman Jarett Taylor, and Quamaine worked personally digging out ditches and hauling dirt on Bamberg and Rice Streets, which in the past have been problematic areas. Councilman Marcus McGirt was also present lending assistance. At 7:15 p.m. as darkness fell, they continued to work At 8:10 p.m., Councilman Taylor is working alone in the darkness and rain. The group will resume in the morning.

The Mill Pond is being monitored on an hourly basis for rising waters. We encourage residents to secure outdoor items, prepare emergency supplies, and stay tuned to official alerts.”
