A traffic stop ended in a wreck on May 13th, according to a report from the City of Dillon Police Department.
The report states that PFC. Leslie Jones was sitting stationary on front of the Dillon Post Office when her radar picked up a car going 38 mph in a 25 mph zone so she attempted to make a traffic stop.
The vehicle kept going until it came to a stop on West Main Street and Highway 301 North at the red light. The driver then ran the red light on Highway 301 and then ran another red light at Highway 301 North and East Harrison Street. The vehicle picked up speed and started running red lights on East Harrison Street. She noticed something being thrown out of the car at East Harrison Street and North 8th Avenue.
The pursuit ended on East Harrison Street and Old Marion Road when the vehicle hit a Department of Transportation fence, which caused the suspect to wreck the vehicle.
The male and female in the vehicle exited the vehicle. The officer advised them to get on the ground. The female stayed near the fence and complied. The male suspect kept walking away after the officer advised him to stop several times, the report says. The female was detained and EMS was called.
Sgt. Matt Cox advised that the male was located near the male’s residence on East Hampton Street.
The report notes that EMS arrived to give aid to both parties.
A white rock substance was located on 8th Avenue and a plastic bag with a white substance and an AR pistol with a magazine was located under the front driver’s seat of the vehicle.
The male, Patrick Nygea Salmon, age 32, East Hampton Street, Dillon, was taken into custody for the following: unlawful carry, possession of a weapon and ammunition by a convicted felon, driving under suspension first offense, failure to stop for a blue light, disregarding traffic signals (two counts) and stop signs (three counts), and possession/trafficking cocaine. He was taken to the Dillon County Detention Center by Pvt. Dustin Hinson.
