Board Meeting Minutes – August 13, 2025

1. Invocation/Prayer

Pastor James Orr opened the meeting with an invocation.

2. Welcome

Glenn Greene welcomed all attendees.

3. Approval of Minutes

Previous meeting minutes were presented for approval. (No additional notes provided on discussion.)

4. Approval of Financial Report

The financial report was reviewed and approved. There were very few expenses reported, and current funds total approximately $42,000.

5. Public Board Chairman Update

Mike was unable to attend but has plans for the remodel at the Country Club. Will present those soon.

6. Guest Speaker

Reverend James Orr spoke about the upcoming Carolina Crusade, which will be held at I-95 Exit 193 and seat 3500 people. It will run 5 nights per week for 2 weeks. More information is available at FollowMeCrusade.org.

7. County Administrator Report

Tim was unable to attend. County Administrator’s update will be rescheduled.

8. Economic Developer’s Report

A new $64 million expansion will bring high-quality jobs to the area.

Funds will be spent on the official announcement, including tent, chairs, and audio system. Motion made and approved to spend up to $5,500.

Lost a potential project to North Carolina; however, that company was given free land there.

A new project meeting is scheduled for next week.

Industry Appreciation:

Perdue event today.

Harbor Freight employees enjoyed free ice cream.

Upcoming week events at Wyman Gordon and Quartz.

Mayor absent; related note—new water meters are being installed.

Police department currently at full capacity.

Tally will be on the Rodneys Podcast called The Lion’s Den.

9. Additional Updates

Jamie started a new job with McLeod Corporate Marketing.

NETC has begun the fall schedule with large graduation classes in spring and summer. Marlboro campus is open; Cheraw campus groundbreaking completed.

Cullen reported unusual growth in the agriculture business, expecting to break even this year.

James Orr is working with NETC on a grant to start a Crisis Care Team in Dillon County to assist local residents.

Mamie continues to work with residents on employment opportunities; SC Works remains active in poverty reduction.

Amber has moved into a management position (congratulations noted).

Sylvia has hired three to five new team members at Wyman.

Debbie organized an event at SIMT to engage students.

Pee Dee Pathways: New logo created by students; seeking partnerships with steel companies; program in development to help educators learn about local businesses.
