Dillon Resident Earns Gold In U.S. Paracycling National Championships

If you’ve seen a cyclist riding his bike around the country roads of Dillon County, South Carolina the past few months before the sun came up, it was probably Adrian Wright doing one of his many training sessions. Adrian has been training in order to compete at the U.S. Paracycling National Championships.

Adrian is an above the knee amputee and rides his bike with his sound leg only. When racing, he is classified as a C2 cyclist. In paracycling, a “C” classification indicates that the cyclist is still able to ride an upright bicycle as opposed to a trike or hand cycle. The number that follows indicates the severity of impairment. The lower the number, the more severe the impairment. The “C” classifications range from C1 to C5.

The 2025 U.S. Paracycling National Championships were held in Charleston, WV during the week of May 19 – 25, 2025 in conjunction with the Pro National Road Race Championships. Adrian competed in the 34 mile road race and earned a gold medal making him the C2 National Champion. On day two, he competed in a 10 mile time trial earning a silver medal and finishing second. Adrian looks forward to preparing and training to compete in the 2026 National Championships.

In addition to this, he plans to participate in the 2026 UCI Paracycling World Cup to be held in Huntsville, Alabama. This will give him the opportunity to compete internationally. All events at the 2025 National Championships were hosted by USA Cycling.
