Kay Hewitt received a $1,000 Virginia Barber Jones Scholarship on Thursday, April 3, at the American Legion monthly meeting held at the American Legion Hut. Hewitt will attend Charleston Southern University in North Charleston, S.C. Kay is the daughter of Jimmy and Leslie Hewitt.
Mary Knight Barber Carter, accompanied by her husband, Hamer Carter and her brother, Steve Barber, made the presentation. Their brother, Gene, was unable to attend.
The American Legion posthumously presented Mrs. Virginia Barber Jones a certificate for 42 years of dedicated service to the American Ladies Auxiliary and for her dedication to all veterans.
Lloyd Brown offered a prayer prior to the beginning of the program.
A delicious meal and fellowship were enjoyed by all.
The American Legion Hut is located at 2014 Hwy. 9 East, Dillon, S.C.
