Submitted by Herbert A. Jacobs, Dillon County AARP
Pictured are members (Betty Swinton, Herbert Jacobs, Christine Carmichael and Dale Hardaway) of the Dillon County chapter of AARP. They worked the AARP information booth during the 2024 “Celebrate Main Street” spring festival on April 27, 2024.
During the festival, we helped to raise the alert to the fraud and scams that are impacting Dillon County residents. While all of us are possible targets, seniors and veterans are prime targets. AARP reports that the TOP 5 scams for 2023-2024 are:
1. I.D. Theft
2. Imposter Business Phone Calls
3. Phony Tech Support Services, Computer Virus Infections
4. Fraudulent Sales Websites
5. Romance Scams
Report suspected scams and fraud by calling the AARP Fraud Watch Network at 1-877-908-3360.
For nearly 25 years, the Dillon County AARP chapter has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Dillon County residents. We have delivered value to members by advocating to protect social security, to prepare for retirement, to reduced prescription drug costs, etc. We have and we continue to work to play a positive role in all of our community.
