The 10-4 Latta Lady Vikings handed the 1-5 Johnsonville Lady Flashes a 73-18 loss in varsity basketball played in Latta on Tuesday, January 14.
The Latta Lady Vikings controlled the tipoff and quickly jumped out to an early 17-0 lead on baskets by #14, #1, #4, #1, a free throw by #1, 2 free throws by #5, #14, and #5.
With 4:07 remaining in the first quarter, Johnsonville’s #2 sank a free throw to break the drought by the Golden Flashes.
The Vikings’ #1 sank a 3-point basket, followed by a Latta player who sank a 2-point basket, and a 2-point basket by #5 to give Latta a 24-21 lead. Johnsonville’s #3 connected for a 3-point basket followed by a 3-point basket for Johnsonville. Johnsonville’s #14 sank 2 free throws to give the Golden Flashes 9 points, some offense. Latta’s #11 laid one inf or 2 points followed by #13 who sank a free throw.
After the first quarter of play, Latta led 27-9. Latta committed 4 fouls in the first quarter while Johnsonville committed 5 fouls.
Johnsonville’s #1 scored a 2-point basket to begin the second quarter of play.
At halftime, Latta was up 46-17. Latta committed 5 fouls in the second quarter of play while Johnsonville did not commit a foul.
Latta is 4-1 in A Region 6 play.
Latta will host Green Sea Floyds on Friday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m.
Johnsonville will host Hemingway on Friday, January 17, at 6:15 p.m.
