CareSouth Carolina’s Tim Walters Retires After 30 Years of Service .

HARTSVILLE— After an illustrious career spanning 46 years in community health, Tim Walters, CareSouth Carolina’s Chief Financial Officer, is retiring. A cornerstone of the organization since December 8, 1994, Walters leaves behind a legacy of dedication, growth, and faith.
“God has it all under control,” Walters often says, a motto that has guided him through nearly half a century of service. Throughout his career, Walters has remained steadfast in his belief that putting God first is key to success.
Walters began his journey in community health in 1978 as CEO of Sandhills Medical Foundation in McBee, South Carolina. For 16 years, he led the organization before joining CareSouth Carolina as CFO. When Walters started, CareSouth Carolina had only four sites and 85 employees. Since that time, it has grown exponentially to 13 sites with more than 600 employees. The budget has also expanded significantly, reflecting the organization’s success and impact.
“There’s been tremendous growth, but it’s all thanks to a great team,” Walters shared. “From Day 1, I’ve appreciated the staff’s dedication and excellence. Any organization is only as successful as its people, and we’ve always had great leaders and support.”
Throughout his career, Walters has overseen billions of dollars in community health funding. Remarkably, in 46 audits, there has never been a single penny of questioned cost, a remarkable feat. Walters credits this achievement to the exceptional financial team he has worked with, calling it “unreal” and a testament to their diligence.
A man of unwavering faith, Walters emphasized the importance of relying on God during challenges. “There have been hard times, but God has always been in control and guided us,” he said.
Walters’ tenure at CareSouth Carolina has been marked by milestones, including never missing a payroll and receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association. The award honored his faithfulness to the Community Health Center Movement and his service-first approach to healthcare.
As he looks forward to retirement, Walters plans to enjoy more time with his family.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” he said. “It’s been a blessing to serve, and I’m excited to see what God has in store next.”
Tim’s last day at CareSouth Carolina is December 31, 2024
