The Dillon County News, LLC, and the United Fund of Dillon County Toy Drive was a huge success. Several families at Whittaker Head Start, Hamer-Canaan Head Start, and the Strengthening Families Program were served. A total of 34 bikes were given away along with numerous toys donated by local civic groups and clubs, churches, and private donors. Kevin Dwyer, John Cannon, Bill Windham, Jimmy Herring, and Lonnie Daniels were instrumental in the getting the bikes built and loaded up to send on their way. Chevella German, who heads the programs mentioned above, was a great partner and got all of the items distributed. The toy drive served 162 families— 122 Head Start families, 16 Early Head Start families and 24 Strengthening Families. We thank each and every person who contributed monetarily, donated a toy, held events to collect toys, came to put together bikes, or who helped in any way. We appreciate you all.
