The Latta Lady Vikings defeated Myrtle Beach Lady Seahawks 17-0 in 5 innings in the first game of the double-header in varsity softball action played at Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, April 14.
Latta’s Maddie Berry picked up the win. She allowed no runs, 1 hit, walked no one, and struck out 13.
Maddie Ashmore took the loss for Myrtle Beach. She pitched 3 innings and allowed 12 runs of which 11 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 3. L. Langway pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 hits, 5 runs of which only 1 was earned, struck out 2, and walked 3.
Latta wasted no time in scoring as the Lady Vikings placed 2 runs onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, Madison Kersey singled and picked up a rbi followed by Chayse Walters who homered and picked up 3 rbi followed by Emily Smith who singled and picked up a rbi.
Latta added 5 runs in the top of the third inning that was aided by an error that allowed 2 runs. Katelyn Johnson hit a double and picked up a rbi, and Maddie Berry added 2 runs with a homer.
The Lady Vikings were not done with the scoring as they added 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning. Katelyn Johnson grounded out that scored a run. Latta scored another run on an error, and Sarah Bryant tripled and picked up 3 rbi.
The Vikings Chayse Walters hit a home run, a triple, and a double in her 4 at-bats.
Latta connected for 15 hits in the game while having a total of 30 at-bats. Latta garnered 5 walks in the 5-inning game. Maddie Berry was also hit by a pitch.
Myrtle Beach’s Berkley Ann Hicks had the lone hit for the Lady Seahawks. B. Hicks stole a base. M. Ashmore was hit by a pitch.
Latta did not commit an error in the game while Myrtle Beach committed 4 errors.
Latta is 16-3-1 for the season.
