The Dillon Wildcats came up short against the Oceanside Collegiate Academy of Mt. Pleasant on Friday, November 29, in the third round of the 1 A State Championship in varsity football action played in Charleston.
Dillon deferred to the second half and kicked off to Oceanside Collegiate Academy. The football was fumbled, and Dillon recovered the football on the Landshark’s 30-yard line.
The drive was completed with a 12-yard Rahmond Hamilton pass to Jamarion Fling for the score. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon was up 7-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Wildcats kicked off to the Landsharks. Oceanside Collegiate Academy has the football on their own 40-yard line. With about 9 minutes left in the first quarter, Oceanside Collegiate Academy connects for a 36-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT was good to knot the score at 7.
After the kickoff, the Dillon Wildcats were on their own 44-yard line. With about 8 minutes left in the first quarter, Dillon is on the Landsharks’ 48-yard line. Oceanside Collegiate Academy intercepts a pass and now has the football on Dillon’s 10-yard line. With 7 minutes to go in the first quarter, Oceanside Collegiate Academy has the football on Dillon’s 4-yard line. From there, the Landsharks rushed for the touchdown. The PAT was good. Oceanside Collegiate Academy led 14-7.
Dillon began on offense on their own 26-yard line after the kickoff. Dillon punted on fourth down on their own 41-yard line with 4 minutes left in the first quarter. The Landsharks began offense on their own 18-yard line.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy slowly moved the football to their own 42-yard line with about 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. After the kickoff, Dillon began on their own 28-yard line. The Wildcats began to move the football and worked their way to Oceanside Collegiate Academy’s 24-yard line with 4 minutes remaining in the first half. Dillon turned the football over on downs on Oceanside Collegiate Academy’s 24-yard line.
With about one minute left in the first half, the Landsharks capped off a drive with a 26-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT was good. Dillon trailed 28-7.
Dillon started on their own 35-yard line after the kickoff. The Wildcats quickly moved the football to the Landsharks’ 45-yard line, and then to the 35-yard line. Oceanside Collegiate Academy intercepted a Wildcat pass and now has the football on their own 33-yard line. The half would end with the Landsharks up 28-7 over the Wildcats.
The second half began with the Wildcats receiving the kickoff where they began on their own 35-yard line. The Dillon Wildcats moved the football towards the Landsharks’ goal. With about 8 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Dillon hit paydirt with a touchdown. The PAT was good by Stehen Rojas to cut the lead to 14 points, 28-14.
The Landsharks were forced to punt to the Wildcats with about 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Dillon began on their 48-yard line.
Dillon, too, turned the football over on downs after facing a fourth down and 2 yards to go.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy had the football on their own 44-yard line. The Landsharks’ offense began to click and found themselves on Dillon’s 22-yard line. Dillon recovered a fumble and had the football on their on 35-yard line. Jamarion Fling rushed for a 52-yard score with about 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon was down 28-21.
After the kickoff, the Landsharks were on their own 31-yard line with about a minute left in the third quarter. They quickly moved the football to Dillon’s 41-yard line. With about 11 minutes remaining in the game, Dillon recovered a fumble and had the football on the Landsharks’ 45-yard line. With about 10 minutes remaining in the game, Dillon was on the Oceanside Collegiate Academy’s 30-yard line. The Wildcats continued to move the football and soon found themselves on the Landsharks’ 13-yard line with about 7 minutes left in the game.
Dillon turned the football over on downs, and Oceanside Collegiate Academy took over on their 1-yard line. With about 6 minutes remaining in the game, the Landsharks punted, and the Wildcats had the football on Oceanside Collegiate Academy’s 47-yard line with about 6 minutes left in the game.
Dillon faced a fourth down and 9 yards to go with about 4 minutes left and punted.
The Landsharks took possession on their own 27-yard line and moved the football to their own 44-yard line with about 2 minutes left in the game. Dillon was out of timeouts. The Landsharks picked up a first down to Dillon’s 32-yard line with about a minute left and managed to get the win.
