DILLON – Betty Sue Jackson Herring, 92, passed away on November 11, 2024. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the cemetery.
Mrs. Herring was born in the Floydale Community of Dillon, South Carolina on February 5, 1932, a daughter of the late Mack Coy Jackson, Sr. and Jessie Morris Jackson. Mrs. Herring graduated from Latta High School in 1949, and she briefly worked for Hyman Auto Company before marrying in 1953 and starting a family. Throughout her life, she took great pride in the hobbies she enjoyed, conducting and completing each task in her own way and at her own pace: gardening and yardwork, cooking, baking, laundry, and crocheting baby blankets – the majority of which she gifted as presents for newborns of family, friends, and neighbors. Mrs. Herring was a former member of the McLeod Medical Center Dillon Auxiliary, and she volunteered at the hospital’s Pink Dogwood Gift Shop for many years. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Dillon.
Mrs. Herring was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Talmadge Blanton “T.B.” Herring, Jr., daughter, Patricia Herring Page, and siblings: William Lester Jackson, Edna Jackson Burney, and Mack Coy Jackson, Jr.
Mrs. Herring is survived by two grandsons, Henry “Hank” Mark Page II and Talmadge Kirkland “Kirk” (Brittany) Page, of Columbia, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Mack Kirkland Page and Elliott Talmadge Page; a sister-in-law, Frances Herring Price of Floydale, S.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Manor Senior Living Community in Florence and White Oak Manor and Pathway Hospice in Columbia for all of the care and kindness that was given to Mrs. Herring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, 400 North Fourth Avenue, Dillon, S.C. 29536 or to the charity of one’s choice. Kannaday Funeral Home of Dillon is assisting the family.
